Hat's off to McMichael's Sarah Milroy, Executive Director & Chief Curator and her team, including Jennifer Winthrow, John Geoghegan, Meaghan Eldridge, Roz Heintzman.
This is the museum exhibition of the summer. Produced from Sandra Paikowsky's important book James Wilson Morrice: Paintings and Drawings in Venice, the exhibition takes visitors through various districts of Venice as seen through Morrice's masterful works.
Jonathan Klinkhoff, his wife Dr. Diana Magee, along with my wife Helen and I attended the McMichael's Moonlight Gala on Saturday evening, a fabulous celebration which doubled as the show’s opening.
Venice, Campo Saint Angelo, circa 1904. Oil on panel. 7 â…œx 10 â…› in.
Viewing Morrice's tour de force, Campo Saint Angelo (shown above), flanked by a wall-sized enlargement of a highlight of it (a photo above including me to show scale), one is struck by the bold and confident brushwork and the kaleidoscope of colours used, even in small details like an awning.
Don’t miss it.
