Jeune Femme and Jeune Homme are a rare and precious pair of paintings, painted at the height of his artistic abilities. Jean Paul Lemieux has captured symbols of youth and adolescence.
The profile of his Jeune Femme is unquestionably similar to that of his Nu Printanier of 1968 (Private Collection) a painting that leads to the interpretation as that of a girl developing into a young woman. Jeune Femme, combined with a young man dressed in a uniform likely of a bellman, offered from this important collection, adds an emotional and romantic element to coming of age. These young adults share a connection through their timid smiles and intimate gazes. Despite being separated by the confines of their respective canvases, his subjects are undeniably drawn to one another. Their gazes are direct and undisturbed by any distraction of activity in the background. Our focus is exclusively on them.
