The house, originally built for Olivier Faucher, in the middle ground on the left, is in the Romanesque Revival style of the American architect Henry Hobson Richardson. Built in 1895, it is a fine example of fine built architectural heritage demolished as urban renewal in Montreal. See its replacement. The Ontario Legislature and the Toronto City Hall were built in the same architectural influence.
The artist, John Little, was of the opinion that some of our important built heritage could be repurposed instead of demolished. It was the very year that the Faucher house was demolished that Montreal’s Van Horne Mansion was also demolished. This was the catalyst to an organized heritage movement in the city.
