“Lawren Harris & Canadian Masters” at Alan Klinkhoff Gallery

Revisiting the most valuable sale of Canadian art in history “Lawren Harris & Canadian Masters” at Alan Klinkhoff Gallery

In April 2017, Alan Klinkhoff Gallery presented to the public the most valuable sale of Canadian art in history. The sale, titled "Lawren Harris & Canadian Masters: Historic Sale Celebrating Canada's 150 Years," included fifteen paintings by the iconic artist Lawren Harris, with a total sale value exceeding $40,000,000.

Fourteen of the Harris paintings were consigned from the Mitzi and Mel Dobrin Collection. This consignment represents the most valuable consignment of Canadian art in history. Alan Klinkhoff Gallery sold all 14 of the Dobrin’s outstanding Lawren Harris paintings.

The April 2017 sale was a tribute to the brilliance of Lawren S. Harris and a testament to the discerning eyes of Mitzi and Mel Dobrin. At the time, Charles C. Hill, C.M. and former Curator of Canadian Art at the National Gallery of Canada wrote, “All the themes pre-dating his explorations in abstraction are represented in this remarkable collection that includes five oil sketches whose importance was recognized by Harris to be worked up into major paintings as well as three canvases of exceptional merit.”

On the 7th anniversary of the sale, we invite you to rediscover the extraordinary Lawren S. Harris paintings from the Collection of Mitzi and Mel Dobrin and sold by Alan Klinkhoff Gallery.
