This is a rare view of Lake Louise by Rene Richard. Since Richard did as a habit “paint up” in oils from drawings he executed in his trapping years we cannot know the precise date of the inception of this painting. It should however be safe to presume that this is painted from a drawing of the 1920s or 1930s. Interestingly, it was acquired and given to a couple as a wedding gift in September of 1954. The numerous attendees signed the reverse of the wood panel. Perhaps most notable among the names is René Bergeron, an important writer of the Saguenay region.
