Goodridge Roberts, like most good artists, followed a set routine. He painted at Georgian Bay most summers until it got too cold and then returned to Montreal. I kept in close touch and usually knew when he would be back. As soon as possible I would go to see him, always trying to be the first so as to be able to buy what I thought were the best pictures. Wildridge and Roberts Gallery always tried to beat me to it but with his house being on my route driving to work, I had the advantage.

“Roberts intensifies nature. Whereas she may be uncertain in her colours and moods, Roberts is consistent. When her colour is weak, he strengthens it. Where chaos reigns, he restores order. Where her topography is scored and broken, he makes her whole again. Where she falters, he restores her with dignity. All of this is done with love and art. Above all else, Roberts imposes the poetry of colour and mood. He adjusts the colour of the sky, or an apple, ringing in harmonies and feelings only he can sense.”
