This is classic Eric Riordon, painted most certainly in his limited career after World War II. He and his wife Molly had relocated to the Laurentians where their house was adjacent to the Simon river near Ste. Adele. The best of his work, such as this, is an ode to the beauty of winter. The power of his palette in the expression of light shows an influence of the Canadian Impressionist Clarence Gagnon. Had he enjoyed a more lengthy and prolific career, his recognition would be far greater than it is today. His paintings are witnesses to their day, not romantic déjà vu renditions painted by commercial artists over the last 50 years.
