Frederick Simpson Coburn is most celebrated for his paintings in winter of logging teams or neighbours sleighing along the roads of Upper Melbourne, where he lived. We have written elsewhere previously of his extensive training and versatility in subject matter and medium. These drawings are evidence of his confidence of hand with drawings that served as stages for his winter compositions in oil on canvas.
