Mark Lanctôt, David Deitcher and Stephen Horne, Pierre Dorion (Montréal: Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal, 2012), 54, no. 36 [reproduced].Arrangement shows a simple interior made up of a few carefully placed objects: a bottle, a cabinet, a rolled blue form, and a tiled wall. Through strong colours, sharp light, and clean lines, Dorion makes this ordinary space feel somewhat surreal and abstract. The objects are familiar, yet their careful arrangement gives the scene a sense of mystery and quiet tension.
Long championed by René Blouin and now Galerie Blouin Division, Pierre Dorion is a veteran Montreal-based artist, described by Jack Shainman Gallery, New York, where Dorion has held several exhibitions, as “... a realistic painter, yet his work also feels minimalist”. (https://jackshainman.com/artists/pierre_dorion) His works are in the collections of major Canadian museums, among them the National Gallery of Canada, Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec, Montreal Museum of Fine Arts and Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal.
