With a palette of greens, viridian, chalky pinks, peaches, yellow pale blue and lavender, Bruce LeDain developed a harmonious orchestration of colours which convey the freshness of a luminous, still Gatineau morning at Messines. Characteristic of LeDain’s foremost interests as an impressionist artist, this is a composition about atmosphere and light.
For more than forty years he has painted his subjects directly from nature, traveling extensively throughout Canada, the New England Seacoast and England. Unique to his work are the elements of atmosphere and light. At its best, exemplified by our painting, the work is of serene contemplation. His paintings appear to contain and be contained by stillness, a sense of peace and a quiet calm.
