This small seascape is a vivid example of Marc-Aurèle de Foy Suzor-Coté’s ability to distill direct observation into a highly expressive image. It is painted in broad, confident brushstrokes animating the restless surface of the sea, while muted blues, greens, ochres, and mauves evoke shifting light beneath a Breton sky. The low horizon and simplified coastal forms emphasize the atmosphere. Colour and vigorous brushwork convey wind, tide, and movement.
