Pablo Picasso, "Tête de Faune" - Dame Barbara Hepworth, "Horizontal Form"

Important Modern Sculptures Pablo Picasso, "Tête de Faune" - Dame Barbara Hepworth, "Horizontal Form"

We are proud to offer for sale these important modern sculptures, including a rare Tête de Faune in bronze by Pablo Picasso, an important “pierced” bronze by Barbara Hepworth, an exquisite nude by Auguste Rodin, and a classic angular pair of figures by Lynn Chadwick. These outstanding works are available for the first time since they were purchased in the late 1960s and early 1970s.

The provenance is directly from a distinguished Montreal based family, one of prominence in Canada’s late 19th to mid-20th century business landscape and acquainted with leading artists and fine art dealers of the period. We are grateful for their confidence.

We frequently remark that art collectors are best served purchasing from or with the guidance of reputable, mainstream and experienced art dealers. That has never never been more true than in today’s world of sculpture. The Picasso and Hepworth were acquired from Waddington Galleries in Montreal, where Theo Waddington received them with the collaboration of his brother, Leslie, who owned the prestigious Waddington Galleries in London. The exquisite bronze by Auguste Rodin, Nu Feminin Assis, was acquired at Galerie Moos, when the gallery had a Montreal branch on Sherbrooke Street West, a few doors from our current Montreal address. Walter Moos was instrumental in introducing important international modern and contemporary art to Canadian collectors. Each of these fine sculptures, except for the Chadwick, is accompanied by a copy of its period invoice.
