Joseph-Charles Franchère (1866–1921) has composed the most leisurely summer setting, a promenade, lakeside, with elegantly dressed vacationers and the enjoyment of a boating party. Joseph-Charles Franchère was one of Quebec’s leading academically trained artists of his generation, remembered for his idealized depictions of rural French-Canadian life, religious murals, and illustrations.
