In 1968, when Tom Roberts painted this fine work he was living in Port Credit, Ontario. The landscape in and around St-Urbain has attracted artists for more than a century. Located in Quebec’s Charlevoix County, today hardly an hour’s drive east of Quebec City on the north shore of the St Lawrence River, the most celebrated town is Baie St-Paul where Clarence Gagnon and later René Richard lived. Other artists who were seduced by the endless opportunities for composition in the region include A.Y. Jackson, Jori Smith, Fred Hutchison to name only a few.
