Remembering the roots of this original Canadian trapper/ artist, one can well imagine him and his canoe accompanied with the most limited of supplies along with his rifle and his knife. The latter two were most commonly fundamental to supplying food while on these expeditions. It was during the years of 1948 - 1951 when Richard went on two expeditions to the Ungava region. In this painting, whether we find Richard at Saglek Fjord with a view of the Torngat Mountains, Ramah Bay, or elsewhere, the Korok or George Rivers perhaps we cannot know. His perspective, perched high up in the hills looking along the unnamed river achieves a tribute to the splendour of the sun setting upon his painting place.
