“The Mulet Valley at Evening” is an exquisite example of the painting of Eric Riordon in his maturity. The most familiar of his scenes are those painted in the Laurentians, first inspired by the landscape surrounding the family country home near Mont Tremblant and post-WWII by the scenery, people and light near his home close to Ste. Adele, today some 45 minutes outside of Montreal. It is honest to hypothesize that, had he benefited from a more lengthy and prolific mature career, Riordon’s recognition would far exceed that which his market rewards his paintings today.
