Almost 70 years ago, that is in 1946, writing about Biéler's evolution after 1927, Marius Barbeau wrote, " Bieler later yielded to the influence of the Group of Seven, of Toronto. For a time he became their staunchest supporter in Quebec and Montreal. Yet, even when welcoming their influence in the choice and composition of his rural themes, he never curbed his own strong individuality. " [1]
Biéler considered making Rivière-au-Renard, Gaspé, his home in 1926. He ultimately did not move to there because the town was too inaccessible. It's lack of roads required people to travel via the beach. [2]
