The family art gallery has always played a major role in my life. There, I often visited Walter (“Grandad”), Gertrude (“Grandma”), my father Alan and uncle Eric, then more recently, my brother Jonathan. It was always a family occasion and even more so when I began occasionally working there during the summers from age 15. Being the youngest of four siblings, my early vacation memories include visits to countless museums and churches including the Louvre, the Van Gogh Museum, Rijksmuseum, Musée Unterlinden in Colmar, the Alte Pinakothek in Munich, Vienna’s Kunsthistorisches Museum, Basilica di San Marco and the magnificent Sainte Chapelle in Paris.

  • From a very young age I could always sense that art was of importance to our family but only later developed a real appreciation for the wonderful works of art that we were exposed to as children I continue to benefit from the guidance of my brother and father in developing an understanding of important historical Canadian art. Our business is very much an apprenticeship. One needs to read the relevant literature on Canadian art but there is a huge asset in actually looking and actively working with these fine works of art in gaining an “understanding” of quality and if one has the aptitude, authenticity as well. My father has often felt that the trading of works of art of this calibre serves to hone the eyes and mind to notions of “quality”.

  • I enjoy learning of my family’s dealings with some of the most important artists and their work, and the regular interaction with the foremost Canadian art historians and art collectors, young and not so young, across the country. Ours is a wonderful community of people. Today, along with my brother Jonathan, father Alan and mother Helen, we are enjoying our efficient, elegant addresses in Toronto and Montreal. I am most often helping manage our Montreal gallery at 1448 Sherbrooke Street West, neighbouring The Canadian Guild of Crafts, Landau/ Dominion Gallery and less than 100 meters west of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts.

  • While I learn to distinguish quality and value, I have been able to compliment our family team with my technology background by managing the evolution and growth of, our main portal open 24/7/365. Our new way of doing business implies that work is no longer a place you go, it is something you do. It continues to be a thrilling experience and one which has already had extraordinary success accomplishing important sales of among the finest of Canadian art.
